Hi all,

Nice to see such a group.

I have had a good history with lukcy bamboo, bought a few gifted a couple lost one.

Does anyone here know how to speed up the growth. I have seen it growing very slowly in the past for me. Is there anyway i can speed up the growth and have a lot of greenery around me Smile

Well, in general this plant grows very slowly unless it is planted in soil and given the proper nutrition and lighting conditions.

If you are keeping it as a hydroponic plant and giving it only indoor lighting, you can expect 3-5 cm of growth in a month.

If it is planted in dirt, regularly fed a light fertiliser, and given its own light source, you could perhaps triple its growth rate. Be very careful though, as a plant that has spent a great deal of time as a hydroponic plant will likely not survive a transition to soil conditions.

When i say dirt i mean actual soil. Potting mix seems to work fine, and used African Violet potting mix works even better. New African violet soil has a lot of fertiliser in it, and this plant does not respond all that well to high levels of nitrogen.

If you are growing this plant in water, as i suspect, adding dirt would be a very bad idea. You are likely to introduce some organism to the water. At the worst, you could get an algea problem or bacterial infection that could kill your plant.

Roots are good. In my experiance, this plant grows faster once it has become rootbound in its container.
